Schertz certainly has a lot to offer for the kids, but with summer in full swing, you may want to venture out a little further for your family fun.

Fortunately, the Central Texas area is home to dozens of easy, accessible and exciting day trip destinations that don’t take a lot of cash or planning.

Want to take the kiddos on an adventure this summer? Here are 7 of the best day trips for Schertz families:

Pioneer Farms
An interactive history park and museum, Pioneer Farms offers a glimpse into history that’s both fun and educational. The farms boasts six historically themed areas, including a cotton planter’s farm, a Native American camp and a rural village. There are more than 90 acres of Texas History in action, and kids can talk with “residents,” explore cabins and teepees, ride a horse-drawn wagon and see animals up close and in person.

Love Creek Orchards
Make the hour-and-a-half drive over to Medina and visit Love Creek Orchards. Pick apples, take photos in the pumpkin patch or tour the orchards and see commercial apple growing in action. There’s even a patio café to grab a burger, grilled cheese or club sandwich to refuel for the day.

South TX Maize
Head out to Hondo’s Graff 7A Ranch to try your hand at the seven-acre corn maze. The ranch also boasts a train, slides, a hayride, hay bale jumping, pig races, apple cannons, bounce houses and more. There are even campsites if you want to stay overnight.

Hamilton Pool
One Texas’ top swimming spots, Hamilton Pool is a natural swimming hole nestled in a historic rock formation and surrounded by cascading falls. It’s as beautiful as it is fun.

The Comal River
Grab your swimsuits and drive on over to the Comal for a day of tubing down the river. Make sure to pack a cooler for drinks, and load up on the sunscreen. The Guadalupe, Frio and Medina rivers are also top choices for tubing fun.

Round Rock Express
Catch a live minor league baseball game in nearby Round Rock next time the Express is in town. The AAA team for the Texas Rangers, the Round Rock Express play at Dell Diamond, which has a kids club, tons of food and regular fireworks displays.

Enchanted Rock
The Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is one of the Lone Star State’s most beautiful natural features. Take the kiddos to see the site for themselves, and go hiking, biking, bird watching or even geocaching.
