Raising kids is no easy feat, that’s for sure—but the town of Schertz at least makes the job a bit easier on parents.

With great schools, plenty of outdoor facilities and a spot on the “Safest Cities in Texas” list, childrearing is just a little simpler here. Kids have access to constant education, culture and entertainment, and they’re safe and healthy thanks to the city’s amazing facilities and amenities.

In short: Schertz is just the ideal spot to put down roots and raise a family.

Still, while choosing Schertz as your kid’s home base may be an easy decision, settling on the exact neighborhood—and more importantly, the exact home—in which to do it can be a bit harder. With dozens of communities, all with different pros, cons and price ranges, selecting a forever home is both difficult and overwhelming for many new Schertz families.

Does this sound like you? Do you need help or guidance finding your new home here in Schertz? Here are some of our favorite family-friend neighborhoods in the area. See if one’s the right fit for your family tree now.

The Crossvine

One of Schertz’s newest and arguably most in-demand neighborhoods, The Crossvine is a master-planned community that combines residential real estate with convenient commercial offerings flawlessly.

Homes in the neighborhood are built by David Weekley Homes and CalAtlantic homes and are surrounded by miles of trails, dozens of pocket parks and plenty of greenbelts for exploring. The entire community is designed for utmost walkability, with sidewalks and trails connecting every area to the next. The community is also home to a resort-style pool, a children’s wading pool, several playgrounds and playscapes, various ponds, a butterfly garden, an events pavilion, an outdoor amphitheater and a dedicated Town Center, which boasts commercial real estate available for businesses and local services.

The Crossvine is currently still in the first phase of development. Eventually, the neighborhood will expand to include many businesses and a variety of living options, including multi-family properties, senior living facilities, townhomes and more. Life in The Crossvine is great now—but it’s only going to get better at the community’s offerings expand and grow.

Kensington Ranch

Home to three distinct subdivisions, Kensington Ranch offers everything from the affordable starter home to the life of luxury. Boasting properties from both Pulte Homes and Centex Homes, the neighborhood offers The Reserve, The Trails and The Estates—the newest addition to the community, which features larger lots and a more premium price point.

Located in the heart of the city, Kensington Ranch offers residents easy access to some of Schertz’s best amenities. The Schertz Soccer Complex is just minutes away, while the Retama Park raceway is only a quick drive down the road. Pickrell Park and Randolph AFB are nearby as well.

Another big selling point for moms and dads? That’d be the Costo located right around the corner. Perfect for grabbing groceries, clothes and even furniture, it’s just another way Schertz makes family living affordable and convenient. The community is also close to Regal Cinemas, The Forum at Olympia Parkway shopping center and Target. Entertainment is never far from your front door in Kensington Ranch.

Jonas Woods

Another popular family-friendly community is Jonas Woods—a quaint and quiet neighborhood with large lots, spacious homes and beautiful, well-kept landscaping. Properties in the area run from $230,000 and up.

Home to just 300 residents, the neighborhood offers just the right balance of small-town feel and big-city amenities. Parents love the miles of jogging trails for keeping fit, while local kids enjoy the two playgrounds, the swimming pool and the community park. The neighborhood is also right off Schertz Parkway, making it easy for residents to access the local YMCA, Samuel L. Clemens High School, the Schertz Soccer Complex, Pickrell Park and other favorite Schertz amenities.

Jonas Woods also boasts a community center, and the neighborhood HOA hosts regular events for its residents, including an Easter egg hunt, barbecues, ice cream socials, National Night Out celebrations and more.
